Visit Guide to Jar Village

Jar is a charming historic village in the Zagatala region of north-western Azerbaijan. It’s largely populated by Avars, an ethnic minority, and has landmarks including a 17th-century mosque and monument to 19th-century resistance leader Sheikh Shamil. You can try delicious local dishes in rustic restaurants and hike into the Caucasus Mountains.

Getting There

Around 4 hours and you will find yourself in Zagatala region, from where it is a short drive to the village of Jar. An inter-city bus traveling from Baku to Zagatala will get you to the centre of Zagatala city, from where you may take a taxi to Jar. Alternatively, you can always travel there by car.

What to Expect

Jar is a wonderful countryside village in Zagatala from which you can take beautiful hikes to places like the Shamilovka plateau and its surroundings. You can also visit local mosque, get acquainted with the Avar culture and try various dishes of local cuisine.
