Getting There
The synagogue is located near the Winter Park, you can reach the park using buses № 18, 88A and 96. It will take you 5 minutes by walk to reach synagogue from the bus stop.
You can also use a metro – “Nizami” metro station is 5 minutes far from the synagogue.
What to Expect
Synagogue of Mountain Jews is a beautiful building changed after reconstruction. With a sanctuary accented by high ceilings and towering windows, a luminous chandelier and an ornate ark to house the synagogue’s Torah scrolls, the building also holds a dining room and kitchen, conference hall, chairman’s office and reception area, and a Jewish library.
History
The building of the Mountain Jews Synagogue in Baku has been functioning since 1945. When the repair and restoration works were started, the second floor of the synagogue was built, and favorable conditions were created for worshipers. In connection with the reconstruction and capital rehabilitation works carried out, there was a need for a new synagogue for Mountain Jews and has been functioning in Baku in 2010. The opening ceremony of the new temple for the Mountain Jews was held on April 5, 2011.
According to the architectural features and dimensions, officials, heads of religious confessions functioning in Azerbaijan, members of the Jewish community, as well as guests from Israel, Russia and other countries attended in opening ceremony of other Jewish temples’ synagogue in Azerbaijan.
