This protected area spanning 100,000 hectares along the Caspian coastline is a paradise for birdwatchers. Its mixed landscape of wetlands, reedbeds, sandy beaches and shallow lagoons is home to millions of birds. This is Azerbaijan’s largest national park. Besides birds, there are various other interesting species, from wolves to wild boars.

Getting There

Gizilaghaj National Park is located around 2-hour ride south from the capital Baku, on the shore of the Caspian Sea in the region of Lankaran. You can get there by car or a taxi, as well as take an inter-city bus from Baku International Bus Terminal and reach Lankaran or Masalli region, taking a taxi then to the Park.

What to Expect

The park is a heaven for birdwatchers, as it is home to the majority of the birds included in the Red Book of Azerbaijan, including flamingos, little bustards and pelicans. The Park is also famous for its fish variety, inhabiting the area on the banks of the Caspian Sea.
