Getting There
To experience one of Asia’s most stunning alpine wetlands in security and comfort is best to visit by private Jeep or motorbike tour from Skardu. As vehicles navigate Deosai’s battered tracks towards 4250-metre-high Sheosar Lake – whose shores fill with some 114 species of plants during the spring and summer – it’s common to see golden marmots standing tall and proud out of their holes.
What to Expect
Deosai is currently on the tentative UNESCO World Heritage Site list for its importance as a prime remaining habitat of the critically endangered Himalayan Brown Bear population. The plateau is also rich in biodiversity, including animals like the Tibetan wolf, fox, and Himalayan Ibex.
