Sighnaghi Museum displays archaeological artefacts and paintings by Georgia\u2019s famous primitivist artist, Niko Pirosmanishvili (Pirosmani).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The nearby Bodbe Convent boasts churches, beautiful gardens, a crafts shop, and the tomb of St Nino, who brought Christianity to Georgia in the 4^{th<\/sup> century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n}

History<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

In 1762, King\u00a0Heraclius II sponsored construction of the town and fortress to defend the area from\u00a0attacks\u00a0by\u00a0Dagestani\u00a0raiders. In Soviet times the town became an agricultural centre. In the early 2000s the Georgian government invested in its renovation, and marketing as \u201cThe City of Love.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
