Kolsai Lakes National Park is one of the most beautiful places in Kazakhstan. Kolsai lakes are located at heights 1800, 2250 and 2700 metres above sea level. They are distinguished by the unique mountain watershed consisting of three natural zones and amazing variety of rare plants and animals. Kolsai Lakes are considered a pearl of Northern Tien-Shan located in 300 km from Almaty.

Getting There

You can get the Kolsai Lakes from Almaty by the bus, taxi or car.

What to Expect

Often referred to as “Pearls of Tien Shan”, the park’s main feature are the Kolsay Lakes located between the Raiymbek District and Talgar District of Almaty Region.  The system of Kolsai reservoirs includes three lakes: Upper, Middle and Lower – all of them are pretty deep, cool and very beautiful. Trekking routes, horse-riding excursions and walks are organized here. The lake is known for its mirror-smooth reflection and stands of dead spruce trunks rising from the water.

History

Kolsai Lakes State National Nature Park was formed in 2007. Lakes of landslide-tectonic origin, approximately formed in 1887 and 1911 on the Kaindy and Kolsay rivers.
