History

Uplistsikhe was found in the I-II millennium B.C. It was an important political, religious and cultural center throughout the history of Georgia.

The fortress tend to be the residence of the tribe leader. Because of his vast power and dominance, he was often called “Lord.” This is why the town is called “The lord’s fortress.”
