Getting There
Chaukandi tombs are situated at a distance of 29 km (18 miles) in the east on N-5 National Highway near Landhi Town, Karachi.
The best way to get from Karachi to Chaukandi tombs without a car is to bus which takes 1 hour 15 mint.
What to Expect
The Chaukandi toms date back to the Mughal era and most of tombs here are from between the 15th and the 18th century of the Jokhio tribe and warriors of the Saloch families, Sindhi tribe.
Visitors are welcome to walk around the tombs and get a close look at the elaborately decorated yellow sandstone slabs.
History
Generally, the tombs are attributed to the (Jokhio) and known as the family of the Jokhio tribe. They were mainly built during Mughal rule sometime in the 15th and 18th centuries. The more elaborate graves are constructed with a buff – colored sandstone, when Islam became dominant.
The tombs are made up of yellow sand stones which were carried form Jungshahi, a railway station near Thatta.
Two graves of daughter and mother in a single platform has its architect name Estad Enaytullah.
