Khetsuu Khad is an enormous underwater that lies across 5 to 7 km, sticking 20 m high out of water below Khyargas lake. Peak of the rock is above the lake water and it attracts migratory cormorant birds to build nests and hatch eggs. Hence it is a favorable place to do bird-watching.

Getting There

Khyargas is a saltwater lake amidst semi-desert in the Great Lakes Depression of Uvs province. You can get there driving.

What to Expect

Khetsuu Khad is an enormous rock sticking out 20m above the water of Khyargas Lake, at Nuur National Park, that attracts migratory cormorants.

The peak of the rock is above the lake water and it attracts migratory cormorant birds to build nests and hatch eggs. Hence it is a favorable place to do bird-watching, photographers and local travelers.

Fun fact: The first scene of the music video ‘The Hu – Yuve Yuve’ was filmed in Khetsuu Khad.

The birds arrive in April and hatch their young in large nests built on the rock. When the chicks hatch, their squawking is constant and deafening.
