Visit Guide to Manchar Lake

Lake Manchar also spelled Manchhar, It is one of the Asia’s largest lakes. It is located west of the Indus River, in Jamshoro District and Dadu District, Sindh. Lake Manchar collects water from numerous small streams in the Kirthar Mountains, and then empties into the Indus River. The lake’s surface area fluctuates with the seasons – from as little as 36 km2, to as much as 500 km2 during monsoon rains.

Getting There

Lake Manchar is located at a distance of 18 km from Sehwan Sharif on west side of the River Indus, in district Jamshoro.

What to Expect

It is the largest natural fresh water lake in Pakistan and The lake’s banks and vicinity are home to ancient archaeological sites ghazi Shah, WahiPandhi Ali Murad Mound.

The lake’s surface area fluctuates with the seasons – from as little as 36 km2, to as much as 500 km2during monsoon rains. Surface are of the lake is 228 to 250 km2(88 to 97 sq mi). 23.5 km long, 12.08 km wide and 5 m deep.

History

The sites of lalChatto, MashakLohri and Lakhiyo situated along the edge of lakeManchar are the most ancient sites, which date from the Harappan Culture.
