Visit Guide to Bibi-Heybat Mosque

One of Azerbaijan’s main spiritual centres, dating from the 13th century, the Bibiheybat mosque was destroyed in Soviet times and reconstructed in 1990s after Azerbaijan re-gained its independence. The tomb of Ukeyma Khanim, a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad, is also located in the mosque.

Getting There

The mosque is located in Bibiheybat district at the southern exit of Baku city. You may get there by public transportation or a car.

What to Expect

The mosque is currently operating and one can find people praying there, but you can enter and roam it without any restrictions.

The existing building of the mosque which was built in the 1990s is a recreation of the same mosque built in the 13th century by Shirvanshah Farrukhzad II Ibn Ahsitan II, and later destroyed by the Soviet regime in 1936.
