Boyukshor, also spelled separately Boyuk Shor (in translation refers to “Big Salty”) is the second largest lake of Azerbaijan and the largest on the Absheron Peninsula. It is located in the center of the Absheron peninsula, on the boundaries of Binagadi, Sabunchu, and Narimanov districts of the city of Baku.

Getting There

You can get there by bus №169 from the “Ulduz” metro station. The bus will bring you right to Boyukshor Boulevard. You can also use a taxi or private car, there is a large parking area near the park.

What to Expect

Boyukshor Boulevard or Boyukshor Park is a boulevard-type park located on the shore of Lake Buyukshor, in the Narimanov district of Baku, Azerbaijan. The length of its coastal embankment is 2.5 kilometers, and the total width of the boulevard is 94 meters.

Sports and children’s playgrounds, as well as jogging, and cycling paths have been built here. You can rent a bicycle from the renting point in the boulevard area. A set of fountains installed in the lake enriches it with oxygen, improving the quality of the water. To manage the lake, improve water quality and monitor, special devices powered by solar energy are used.

Opened May 22, 2015. The opening was attended by the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and his wife Mehriban Aliyeva. The boulevard approved in 2014 the “State program for the socio-economic development of the city of Baku and its settlements for 2014-2016” and “Additional measures in the field of improvement, protection and use of the ecological state of Lake Boyukshor”, approved in 2013.

The boulevard is located on the eastern and southern shores of the lake. Its area is more than 15 hectares. The boulevard was built after cleaning up oil-contaminated land. The entry of contaminated groundwater into the lake was also completely prevented and a drainage system was installed.
