Getting There
Located at the intersection of Tauelsizdik Avenue and Akhmet Baitursynov Street, the attraction is easy to access either by public transport or by taxi.
What to Expect
Cossack Eli, translated as “the country of the Kazakhs”, is the monument in the form of a snow-white column with a gilded figure of the mythical bird Samruk on the top of it. The column is set on a white marble quadrangular base. At the base, on each of the four sides, there are decorative niches with bas-reliefs describing the main milestones in the history of the country’s independence. One of the bas-reliefs depicts the first president of the republic, Nursultan Nazarbayev.
The height of the monument is 91 meters, symbolizing the year of Kazakhstan’s independence. There is a colonnade made of white marble behind the main monument
The Cossack Eli monument stands for the basic values of Kazakhstani statehood and is one of the new symbols of the country.
History
It was created in October 2009. In September 2015, the square transformed into a historic village in honor of the 550th anniversary of the Kazakh Khanate.
