Omalo Nakaicho Pass Hiking

Visit Guide to Omalo Nakaicho Pass Hiking

A famous four- or five-day route starts in Omalo, runs up the Pirikiti Alazani valley to Dartlo, Chesho, and Parsma, then crosses the steep 2900m Nakaicho Pass over to Verkhovani, and returns to Omalo down the Gomtsari Alazani valley.

Getting There

Located in the northeastern part of Georgia, Tusheti is one of the country’s most adventurous destinations. Traveling to Tusheti is not easy; there is no public transport, and driving on the road that leads to Omalo is risky.

What to Expect

The basic route does involve quite a lot of road walking. Non-road alternatives are to approach Dartlo from Diklo via Chigho and to take the scenic Gonta ridge route between the Nakaicho Pass and Gele (about 6km northwest of Omalo) instead of either of the two valley roads.
