Visit Guide to Tian Chi Lake

Tian Chi Lake, also known as Heavenly Lake, is a picturesque alpine lake in the Tian Shan Mountains. Its stunning high-altitude location makes it a popular destination for nature seekers. The lake itself is a mesmerising sight, characterised by its crystal-clear turquoise waters reflecting the surrounding snow-capped peaks.

Getting There

Tian Chi Lake is around a 3-4 hour drive from Urumqi. There are regular local bus services or you can hire a driver.

What to Expect

Tian Chi is located on the north side of Bogda Shan (‘Mountain of God’), an imposing peak that rises in a striking manner over the lake’s vibrant blue water. The lake is surrounded by lush forests and is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, including towering spruce and pine trees, colourful wildflowers, and various species of birds and small mammals.

Hiking trails lead visitors to scenic viewpoints and secluded spots, while boating in larger cruise vessels offers a chance to get out on the water. Horseback riding and camping are also available, as well as more technical mountaineering for experienced trekkers.
