The annual cultural festival held in Goychay celebrates one of the most popular fruits harvested in Azerbaijan – pomegranates. At the festival, a parade is held with traditional Azerbaijani dances and Azerbaijani music. During the festival, various ceremonies, competitions, fairs, traditional performances and other entertaining activities are held.

Getting There

You can reach Goychay, located 260 km west from Baku, in around 3-3.5 hours by car or inter-city bus leaving from the Baku International Bus Station. The festival is held in the city centre, so you will arrive right to the spot.

What to Expect

Expect everything related to pomegranate, the “king of fruit” of Azerbaijan – competitions, performances, fairs, pomegranate juice and wine, and, of course, lots and lots of organic, locally grown pomegranates. In 2020, the Festival was included in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

History

The Festival has been held yearly since 2006 in November as it is the season of pomegranates – since then it has turned into favorite event of locals and tourists alike.
