Getting There
To visit the Lerik-Kalvaz Road tourists can travel to Lerik from Baku by car, taxi, and bus. There is a 295 km distance from Baku to Lerik by car. It takes approximately 4 hours to reach Lerik from Baku. There is no public transport from Lerik to Kalvaza. You can get there only by private car or taxi.
What to Expect
On the road from the city of Lerik toward the village of Kalvaz, travellers will encounter a striking landscape known as the Gate of Mountains, as well as an archeologically significant Buzeyir Cave.
Surrounded by mountains from all sides, Kalvaz is one of the villages, which is situated near the highest peak of the Lerik district. From here, one can catch a glimpse of Savalan Mountain, one of the most stunning peaks in southern Azerbaijan.
The village experiences colder temperatures throughout the year due to the influence of the snow-capped peaks of Savalan. While the average monthly temperature in the southern region hovers around 32-34 degrees Celsius during the summer months, daytime temperature in Kalvaz are typically 7-8 degrees lower, dropping even further in the evenings.
The surrounding mountains are mainly of volcanic origin. One peak, often referred to as ‘the Castle’ due to its appearance, is characterized by its vertical rock formations.
Facilities Available
A number of restaurants and recreation centers operate on Lerik Kalvaz Road. In addition, one of the places that will attract the interest of tourists is Buzeyir Cave, which has archaeological importance.
